When dew is on the grass, rain won't come to pass. Old folk lore.

Vegetation droops and dies, the leaves shrivel like half-burnt paper and the ripening fruit is scorched and half-roasted on the trees. Luxuriant crops of wheat and barley, with the grain still tender in the ear, are shrivelled up by the heat and scarcely fit to cut for hay.
