Ernestos Kostas

Kostas, E. [B. Sc. (Environmental Biology)] - Ernestos joined the Agency in May 1998. Receiving his degree from Curtin University of Technology Western Australia, he studied Environmental Biology. During his studies he determined the diversity and distribution of cockroaches within remnant bushland sites. Ernestos has also been involved in the development of a now commercially available farm-monitoring kit that allows farmers to document changes to the local environment. Prior to gaining employment with Agriculture WA, Ernestos was employed by a research company called Bioscience where he was involved in the development of an organic based fertiliser. His hobbies include basketball, weights and diving with his big cheeked friend Jas.

Currently Ernestos is working within the Grain Insect Resistance Laboratory comparing the resistance of stored grain pests tested by two different methods, from silos treated with the fumigant phosphine. He has experience rearing various insect species and performing bioassays and several mortality tests. Ernestos has a range of computing experience and skills involving database maintenance and desktop publishing.
